Bihar State Budget 2025-26

- The Bihar government on March 3, 2025 tabled estimated Budget of ₹3,16,895.02 crore in the Assembly for the financial year 2025-26. The Budget allocation has been higher by ₹38,169.30 crore than the previous Budget of ₹2,78,725.72 crore.
- The Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary who also holds finance department said that the State government would spend ₹60,954 crores on education, ₹20,335 crores on health, ₹16,193 crores on rural development and ₹13,483 crores for energy sectors in the financial year 2025-26.
- “Under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s ambitious seven Nischay 2 of Aatmanirbhar Bihar (2020-2025) provision of ₹5,972.00 crore Budget was estimated in various departments.” the Budget copy said.
- The State’s finances are in good shape. Public debt liability of ₹2,80,083.89 crore was ₹32.78% of GSDP, ₹8,54,429.00 crore during 2023-24. By the end of March 31, public debt and other liabilities was ₹3,32,740.90 crore which is 38.94% of GSDP. This is under prescribed limit of 40.4% by the 15th Finance Commission.
- Mr. Choudhary announced that a cancer care society would be set up in the State and also that the government would open a cancer hospital in Begusarai.
- The government would also set up mahila haat [women’s market] in Patna and kanya vivah mandap [bride’s marriage canopy] will be established in all panchayats of the State.
- “The government will begin a special bus service for women in all major cities of the State. Not only the drivers and conductors in these buses will be women but also the trainers who will train them too will be women,” Mr. Choudhary said while adding, “the government will focus on religious tourism and women will be trained as tourist guides.”
- While announcing that flights would start from Purnia airport in north-eastern Bihar in three months, Mr. Choudhary said, airports at three other places too will be completed soon in the State.
